No Sisters were formed by the four Barrett brothers: Pete, Tim, Tom and Dave. After seeing the Nuns at the Mabuhay Gardens and thinking them a comedy act, Tim convinced the other three to convene in San Francisco on Halloween 1977. A chance encounter with Ned Claflin in a pawn shop began his lifelong association with the brothers, playing drums and wielding a mighty songwriting pen. They were considered one of the top unsigned bands in the San Francisco Bay Area opening for many touring headliners of the day including The B52s, The Ramones, Joe Jackson and Oingo Boingo. Their first record, the independently released "Roscoe's Family" was a regional hit and was nominated for a Bammy for best independent single of 1981.
