When you listen to “Live at the Sands in Las Vegas” by Allan Sherman, you relive his whole nightclub act -- every song, every joke, every ad lib with the audience — EVERYTHING! And you don’t have to slip the Sands maitre d’ a $25 chip for a ringside table.
The “Rat Pack” — Frank, Dean, and Sammy — all loved Sherman’s act. In this Copa Room show, Sherman even sings his own nutty versions of “Rat Pack” standards like “Call Me Irresponsible” (Sinatra), “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” (Frank or Sammy), and “You Are Too Beautiful”, “A Slow Boat to China”, and “You Made Me Love You” (Dean). After one song, Sherman takes a bite from a sandwich he hid in the piano. Then he jokes: “Dean Martin drinks — I eat.”
Listen to all 15 tracks in order and you’ll be magically transported back to 1960’s Vegas for Sherman’s show.
